Had my first Karaoke experience — went with my brother Bill and his lady Carla to a place called Paoli’s.  I sang Nature boy.  Thank you to Mark who made the Karaoke DJ change to the Nat King Cole version!  I really enjoyed singing that one.  Then I tried a Judy Collins song that didn’t go as well. Next time I’ll make sure I know the song inside out!  Here are a couple of cell phone photos from the occasion.   (Carla… how could we have missed snapping you?!!!)

• Home – fn + left arrow
• End – fn + right arrow
• Page Up – fn + up arrow
• Page Down – fn + down arrow
• Print Screen – fn + shift + F11 (and for just the current window fn+shift+alt+F11)
• Del – fn + backspace (note: the backspace key is labeled “delete” but is not recognized as a delete key by some software)
• Windows key – cmd
• Pause/Break – fn + esc (you can therefore bring up the system properties with cmd+fn+esc – normally Win+Pause with Windows keyboard)
• Hash symbol (#) – ctrl + alt + 3
• Ctrl-alt-del – ctrl + alt + fn + backspace

Also, if your Macbook Pro is experiencing freezes in Windows 7 mode, they suggest switching to the classic user interface.  Haven’t tried it yet, but I’m ready to.

Imagine my disappointment when my new MacBook Pro wouldn’t recognize tapping gestures on its trackpad while running Windows in bootcamp.  Pressing the button with your thumb is workable only for a few minutes. I needed a real working solution.  Angela (friend) loaned me her usb mouse, but when the time came to return it I went hunting the web.

Solution found.

Open the Control Panel and locate the item called “Boot Camp”.  Click once — Windows asked if I wanted to allow Apple to change my setup (yes, it asked prior to my actually making changes).  I said “yes” and continued.  There are four tabs for the Trackpad.  One of them gives the various tapping options, and upon making my selection and closing the dialogue windows, tapping was active on my Trackpad.

Earlier that day, I had been to the dance studio expecting to leave a gift for the company and then do some sight-seeing, but I was invited to take one last ballet class, which I’m very happy to have done.  I got to speak to the company and tell them how much I enjoyed associating with such special people, and to say how lucky they are to study with the great Margo Nativo.  Then I described the gift I was leaving with them… and hugs and kisses all around.

Later in the afternoon Gerhard led me over the Ponte Vecchio through the heart of Florence’s “Disneyland” over to the huge Pitti Palace. We were late in the day, so there were no lines.  We saw tons of beautiful paintings, including their 10 Raphaels (of which one accidental photograph was taken).  There were statues, including one that was a match for the bust in the little balcony alcove at my first apartment by the Duomo.

I loved the large tables inlaid with semi-precious stones. The designs were exquisite still lifes, as good as any painted.

The rooms full of old tapestries and furnishings were thick with something in the air — dust? mold? ghosts? all of the above?  It made me want to get out of there quickly.  I was enjoying the “modern” art (18th through 20th Centuries) when they started buzzing to hurry us all out of there.  Even though it says it’s open until 7, they shut the doors at 6:30.  It was a well-spent afternoon with lots of beautiful things.

After a week of museums, churches and palaces one needs to have the neck repaired.  I’m still resting mine.
