Hope you see this. I left a comment earlier but it hasn't shown up...so I'm giving it another go. I hope I have the right person, but I believe that I studied ballet with you in the late 80's/early 90's at Steps in NYC. Is that you? If it is, would love to send you an e-mail...you had a very profound and wonderful impact on my life and dance career (or should we say mini-career). I'm including my email address in the box below, and I'm assuming you can see it. If you can't please post a message here so I can get it to you. I really look forward to hearing back from you...would love to tell you the story of the impact you had!

I've been searching for you, and I think I found you! If I have the right person...I was a student of yours at Steps in NYC in the 1980's and early 90's, You had a very profound impact on my life and the small dance career I had. Your words of wisdom still resonate in my memory.

If I have the right person...I would love to hear from you and write to you further. I entered my e-mail address in the box below the message. I'm assuming you can see it...if not please post a message here and I will get my e-mail address to you.

Rob, I appreciate what you're saying.

I enjoyed the little surprise because the Santa phenomenon has become a Western icon for act of selfless giving and acknowledgment that there are Gifts that humankind receives that come from a place more profound than ordinary "howdy" everyday life. In that spirit, I appreciate the VLC people took a risk that I might not read that little "santa hat" or "elf hat" as a tacit expression of their wish that everyone share in the act of giving and remember that which is Greater.

For those users who are not Christian, this is just a way of telling us we're not as valued as users who are. Other people have holidays too, but I don't see any special icons for those.

This is just insulting.

I believe one needs to ramp up. So yes, rest a day at first, but work up towards every-day workout, and take one day off from it each week. The way we do it in ballet is that you don't do all the exercises all the time. You just do a rounded workout, and change it up a little each day. These slight changes are like dietary changes. One can do them intuitively and achieve a good result... perhaps even the best result. For example, if my hamstrings are sore I would not do exercises that work them intensively. Instead, I'd do exercises that allow them to work with the whole, and I'd give them a really good stretch.

In Jazz Dance, Graham and Horton techniques, Bharata Natayam, and tap dance, they do just about the same routine every day, simply increasing the difficulty and complexity from week to week. In all dance forms, the second half of the daily class is spent on routines, in which one trains the memory, learns the performance style, and increases stamina.
